QC in B2B jewellery: the real goal
In production, QC isn’t “finding issues at the end”. It’s a system to:
- catch deviations early,
- maintain consistency from lot to lot,
- and reduce rework and returns.
What gets controlled (typical areas)
1) Dimensions and tolerances
- Key measurements (fit zones, clasps, diameters, critical thicknesses)
- Symmetry and alignment
2) Aesthetics / finishing
- Uniformity of polish and texture
- Presence of marks visible at normal viewing distance
- Consistency across pieces in the same lot
3) Functionality
- Clasps, springs, assemblies, solder joints
- Fit and comfort
4) Stones (if applicable)
- Setting security
- Alignment and visual matching (per agreed standard)
- Integrity (no visible chips/cracks, etc.)
When to control (recommended checkpoints)
- After the main manufacturing phase (before finishing)
- After finishing/plating
- Before final packaging
- Sampling and/or 100% checks depending on criticality
The most common mistake: not defining “acceptable”
To avoid disputes and delays:
- Define key tolerances.
- Define “critical defects” vs “cosmetic defects” vs “acceptable”.
- Align to an approved golden sample.
How to work with your supplier for effective QC
- One owner on each side (brand/supplier)
- A short acceptance-criteria document
- Photo references “OK / NOT OK”
- Review cadence (per milestone)
What we can provide
- QC checklist proposal per product type
- Agreed criteria to reduce rework
- Design recommendations to improve consistency
